LEAN • GREEN • KEEN
Lean is a department within UGS that functions to keep our office and workspaces well organized and efficient. Lean operates systematically to eliminate waste, both tangible and abstract.
Green describes our Sustainability Department. Like lean, this initiative focuses on reducing and eliminating waste, but also strongly encourages the reduction of our carbon footprint and overall energy use. Our most recent transformation towards becoming a more sustainable print company was our FSC certification, which includes us in a chain-of-custody that promotes the responsible management of forests. Even outside of the production and office areas, all UGS affiliates attempt to make conscious choices that minimize our impact on the environment.
Keen resembles our Knowledge Management department, which has been created so that information is not lost from year to year as UGS has a quick turnaround with managers and employees. In addition to implementing a “wiki” as a blogging tool, Knowledge Management has also initiated a newsletter called “The Underground Scoop” which features student writing about UGS happenings, Graphic Communication department information, as well as fun facts and tips that benefit its weekly readers.
